The copper IUD
The copper coil is a T wrapped with copper wire. It lies in the uterine cave and prevents pregnancy. The copper ions change the motility of the sperm and the endometrium in a way that a pregnancy is almost impossible.
The hormonal IUD
A hormonal IUD has a hormone depot in the long end of the T. This depot prevents the uterine lining from building up and makes the cervical mucus impermeable, thus preventing pregnancy.
The copper chain
The copper chain is inserted into the uterine muscles. The copper ions released prevent pregnancy.
The copper ball
The copper bead ball only gets its round shape inside the uterine cavity. The copper ions released have a contraceptive effect.
The "morning after" IUD
The “morning after” IUD has to be a copper IUD and can be used 120 hours after unprotected intercourse. The way the copper ions work can prevent an implantation of the fertilized egg.
