Thankfully, Germany has long tradition of cancer prevention and general screening in gynecology.
Without any question this is very important at any age.
In your 20s you face different health issues than in your 40s or 70s.
Annual preventive care has a firm place in a woman's life.
Whether it is infection, cancer or a completely different disease, your gynecologist as your preventive care specialist accompanies you for a lifetime.

​ The following examinations are usually covered by the public health insurance:

For women over 20:

PAP smear (cytology)

Palpation examination

Chlamydia test

For women over 35:

palpation examination

PAP smear every 3 years (cytology)

HPV determination every three years

For women over 50:

mammography every two years

PAP smear every 3 years

HPV determination every three years

immunological stool test

The above listed examinations might not be sufficient in your case. Experience has shown that it can make sense to carry out additional smears and ultrasound examinations. It can be valuable to continue mammography beyond the age of 70 or to examine the breast with ultrasound, especially in women who have dense tissue.
These additional services are not covered by the state health insurance.
